File encryption

Encrypt and decrypt files with a passphrase.

Files receive a .aptk extension. The original filename is not encrypted; rename sensitive filenames before sharing. Keep the password separately and test recovery before deleting your original.

About File encryption

Create an encrypted copy of a file before storing or sharing it. The file contents are protected by the passphrase; recovery requires retaining both the encrypted copy and its correct password.

Steps, and limitations

How to use it

  1. Select encrypt or decrypt and choose the file.
  2. Enter the passphrase and start processing.
  3. Download the result and verify you can decrypt it before relying on the encrypted copy.

Things to know

  • Files must fit within the available browser memory and the tool limits.
  • There is no account recovery or password reset. Keep a separate backup and a secure record of the password.
