Privacy & security

Generate a password, check a digest, or encrypt a copy of a file. Read the tool-specific limits before relying on an output.

Hash, HMAC, or encryption?

A hash makes a digest for comparison. HMAC adds a secret key for message authentication. Encryption protects content using a password and can be reversed with that password.

Keep a recovery plan

There is no password-reset service for encrypted files. Store the password separately, retain a backup, and test decryption. Metadata removal should always be checked on the exported copy.
