About Image to ASCII
Build a character-based version of a picture using its brightness. Change output width, character aspect ratio and density ramp while inspecting the source and text preview. Color exports are available without putting the source image in a URL.

How to use it
- Drop a supported raster image or use the built-in sample. Rotate or mirror the source as needed.
- Choose ASCII or Braille, then adjust detail, brightness, contrast and gamma. ASCII supports a custom density ramp and optional dithering.
- Inspect the preview and optionally enable image colors. Copy text or export TXT, Markdown, SVG, PNG, HTML or ANSI.
Things to know
- This still-image tool uses one GIF frame. Choose ASCII animation studio for moving GIFs and videos. SVG, HEIC and unsupported browser decoders are not accepted by this tool. Images are limited to 40 MiB, 40 megapixels and 16,384 pixels per edge.
- The output is bounded to 240 columns and 160 rows. Very tall images reduce both axes to preserve proportions. Braille uses Unicode rather than seven-bit ASCII.
- Plain text and Markdown do not carry pixel colors. Choose HTML, SVG, PNG or an ANSI-compatible terminal for color; invert density for light backgrounds when needed.
